This workshop will introduce you to a Swiss lever clock platform escapement. The course is ideal for professional candidates that want to learn how to properly service and make small adjustments and repairs. In addition, to the clock professionals that want to further their skills; this course will benefit the hobbyist, who is interested in going to the next level. Each participant will increase their knowledge on: diagnosing problems understanding how to properly service make repairs and adjustments to Swiss lever platform escapements

Servicing a Swiss Lever Clock Platform Escapement course objectives are as follows:

  • Cleaning and oiling;
  • Identifying worn and broken parts;
  • Verifying proper end shakes;
  • Identifying escapement issues;
  • Diagnosing hairspring and balance wheel problems; and
  • Making timing adjustments, (regulation and in beat)

This workshop will also give the participant a better understanding on the challenges a clock with a platform escapement has prior to purchase. Each participant is required to supply their own Swiss Lever Clock Platform Escapement.

Required tools for workshop:                                                       

  • Selection of eye loupes 10x, 4x
  • Jewelers screwdrivers
  • Movement holder (pocket watch size)
  • Tweezers (#3 or #3C, #5) brass or bronze

  • Dust blower
  • Hand lifting levers
  • Watchmakers paper
  • Oil cups
  • Oilers
  • Finger cotes or gloves
  • Peg wood
  • Pith wood
  • Rodico
